Rosario (San Germán)

International > N America > Puerto Rico
Warning Access Issue: Private property. Camping not allowed. Please be respectful at all times. DetailsDrop down

Description

Rosario is a unique climbing area in Puerto Rico due to the Firulay wall which is continuously steep (about 35 to 40 degrees) although not very tall. There are about a dozen routes at this wall ranging from 5.9 to 5.12c and 25' to 50' long. The wall gets sun till early afternoon so cloudy days are best but Firulay stays relatively shady most of the day and can even be climbed when its raining!

From PR-2 near San Germán take exit (salida) 168. Head north on PR-330 for about 3.8 miles and turn right on PR-348. Follow this for about 1.6 miles and turn right onto a dirt road just before a small bridge. Park anywhere in the large grassy clearing.

Walk around some posts with a chain and continue following the dirt road to a clearing with a privy on the right. Walk straight through the clearing and you should pick up an obvious trail. After about 40m or 50m the trail will split, the left fork goes straight to Firulay (The Gym) and the right one goes to the Vertical Jamming wall. You can also walk between to the two walls once you're at the base. Total approach time takes no more than 10 minutes.

[Hide Comment] The trail that goes straight to the Gym is mostly/completely overgrown, it's easier to go up and right to base, then walk left past Vertical Jammin wall. Dec 11, 2014

[Hide Comment] We climbed here in Dec of 2014. The grassy parking area is fenced off, we had to park next to the road and walk along the fence. Lots of no-trespassing signs but we walked right by and had a great day. Super fun spot. Jan 30, 2015
[Hide Comment] Anyone have current updates on access, bolt quality, or additional routes
in this area? Jan 7, 2019
[Hide Comment] Update: conditions good. Trail a bit over grown, but it's so short you won't get lost.

Access is through private property so please be very respectful. Small part of property is for farming agriculture so keep your distance. Sep 25, 2021

[Hide Comment] This crag should be on your to do list for PR! Varied style and rock with an easy trail. Right inline with Las Tetas de Cayey, this is as unique as it gets on the island! Nov 3, 2024
[Hide Comment] First time visiting this crag. The coords for parking appear to no longer be valid. Although there is past mention of a chain the property is now gated with a surplus of Private Property notices surrounding the entrance(s).
It's clear where parking used to exist, however it's not clear whether the now current owners are ok with visitors.
