Arizona > Southern Arizona > Mt Lemmon (Sant… > Mt Lemmon (Cata… > 2 - Bear Canyon > Chessman Area

Description

Thirteen traditional and sport lines ranging from 5.9- to 5.12+. Serf's Up (5.12-) on the Rampart and Kings Arete are classic. This area includes the King's Rampart sector.

The King sector sees the most shade of any wall in the area. Sun starts hitting the wall around 3pm.

Getting There

Disembark and hike straight up the rocky drainage for approximately 15 minutes. The strenuous hike involves a small amount of scrambling but is over soon enough.

Follow the uphill, left branch when the trail forks near the base of the cliff. Gain a slight bit of elevation and wind through a few shrubs, continuing left past the Queen and Checkerboard sectors.

The King's Rampart is reached by hiking left past the King Sector. Gain elevation before walking back right over the anchors of climbs below.
