Access Issue: NO DRONES ON NATIONAL PARKLANDS
Details
All of the crags within the New River Gorge proper are on national parklands, and drone use is prohibited here. There has been some discussion about places to launch drones that are not on park property, and then flying them over the gorge. This is super poor form; don't do it. Park regulations prohibit all drone use over the boundaries without a permit.
Description
Easily accessible boulders along the river bottom, with a thirty second approach. This is a good place to go when the Hawk's Nest Dam boulders are flooded out from dam releases. Great problems, especially in the v3-4 range. The only drawbacks are some trash, since it's so close to the road, and occasional mud pits when the river is high.
Getting There
Heading north from Fayetteville on Highway 16, drive just past the bridge across the New River and parking for Cottontop crag/Hawks Nest Dam. The next pull-off on your left is Cotton Bottom. Boulders are easy to find below the road.
