Description Suggest change

Limestone as far as the eye can see! Crete is just waiting to be truly discovered. There are already hundreds of routes up all over the island with hundreds if not thousands waiting to be put up.

The most quality routes are sport climbs, and all have been well bolted by a good crew of dedicated climbers. There are also a good number of trad routes sprinkled throughout the Island.

There are a couple of books on the area, "From North to South, Climbing in Crete" and "Crete: Kapetaniana-Kofinas." The former is newer and covers more areas, but the latter has more detail on the Island's largest climbing area, Kapetaniana.

There is an american company that guides long trips on Crete, and other islands; nwpassage.com/greece-climbi…. There are also a couple of local guides, but they are a bit harder to get a hold of.

Getting There Suggest change

The easiest thing is to find your way to Athens and then get on a small plane or ferry to Heraklion. From there, you can rent a car or hop on a bus to most of the climbing areas. I recommend having a car. Some climbing areas would be tough to get to without one.
