Description

Routes on this wall predate the 2006 closure to climbing.

This area is best seen in fall or winter. During summer it is difficult to see features like the Gunsight, which is a notch in the center of this wall.

This wall is one side of a rib of limestone that ends with Chimney Rock overlooking Jurden creek.

All of this area, the north east side, is closed to climbing, and has been since 2006, when the State of Iowa became concerned about our possible impact on delicate and rare snails, and mosses. The idea may take some time to study, and locals respect the closure.

Many other areas may be climbed at Indian Bluffs.
Closed north of Chimney Rock. Details

Getting There

From the burnt stump parking area you take the trail up hill through the meadow along a corn or bean field and into the woods at the first main drainage going right. Follow drainage to creek and curve left. Black Hawk wall is to the left and the trail converges with the base of the wall approaching the end of the wall where the Chimney Rock formation is located.

The trail continues left around Chimney Rock to areas that are open to climbing.
