Description
The Little Seneca Lake area is an often overlooked stopping point on the way to Island Lake, Titcomb Basin, and Gannett Peak. However, that's what makes it a great destination - fewer people, more privacy, an abundance of firewood, and untouched climbing. It is a good halfway point between the Elkhart Park trailhead and Titcomb Basin, especially if you are taking a leisurely four or five days to climb Gannett Peak. Most hikers in the area will be headed to Island Lake and will stop at the larger Seneca Lake (0.5 mi. to the southwest) or go the additional 3 mi. to Island Lake. The best camping at Little Seneca Lake is on the south shore or 100 yards above the lake to the southwest. Most of the climbing is along the north side of the lake. All climbing at Little Seneca Lake is trad climbing.
Getting There
Elkhart Park trailhead provides the easiest access via the Pole Creek trail. Little Seneca Lake lies on the route from Elkhart Park to Gannett Peak, making it a good stopping point between the trailhead and Titcomb Basin. Little Seneca Lake is about 9 mi. from the trailhead and about 0.5 mi. northeast of the more popular Seneca Lake, on your way to Island Lake. Little Seneca Lake can also be accessed from the Cook Lakes to the southeast.
