Access Issue: Road closure Oct 1, 2024 Details

PG&E will be closing access to Courtright reservoir early this year. The gate will close Oct 1, 2024 and will remain closed until the spring of 2025

Description

The west face of Punk Rock, despite it size and attractive appearance, has few routes even though it is one of the most easily approached domes in the area.

There exists a handful of routes (5.11 and up) on the imposingly steep and sparsely featured left and central portions of the dome while the lower-angled right end hosts half-a-dozen routes or more 5.11 and easier.

Getting There

Approach from the paved parking area and hike up a slight incline to the base of the wall for routes on the left side of the face.

Routes in the middle of the face are easily reached by a traverse along the base of the wall but to reach the climbs at the right end of the face it's easier to use a climber's trail which sits about a 100 meters below the wall.

Approach times vary from 5-15 minutes or so depending upon the path taken and your degree of fitness.
