Upper Prow

Montana > Southwest Region > Bear Canyon > Lower Bear Canyon

Description

AboveThe Prow, and further up the trail is this short face with a mixture of closely spaced sport lines rated 5.10 and higher. Not the best climbing in the area, but not the worst either. Expect very similar rock with plenty of pockets, jugs, and side-pulls. Almost grid-bolted, many variations could exist here, but all lines intentionally go straight up the face.

Getting There

Locate The Prow, and follow a faint, but obvious path uphill to the obvious face.

[Hide Comment] Christopher, keep in mind that the goal of Mountain Project is to be a quality climbing route database with relevant descriptions and information.

If you haven't climbed a route simply do not submit it to MP.

Do not make up names for a route - "unknown" is not acceptable either

try to give accurate beta on protection. e.g. how many bolts.
-btw a you stated as pro "bolts to hangers". Well hangers are what you are clipping. "(#) bolts to chains" would be more appropriate.

I'm not trying to come of as a jerk and I'm not trolling you. I was just going to bring some beginners up here and noticed the quality of your submissions were very similar to past issues.

With that said thank you for your desire to contribute.

[Hide Comment] Christopher-

Thanks you for the recent contributions, but please consider our aim is quality route descriptions that go beyond the guidebook. I believe Josh's comment is sincere, and all he is doing is asking you for more usable information. My intent here is not to single you out, but ask that all contributors to Montana, if you are not already, to step it up. A majority of the regular users here do an excellent job and put a lot of energy into their work. The site is not perfect, and every entry will not be a gem, but a quality entry follows a few basic guidelines and can be done by anybody. I"m sure many of you have noticed we're making a lot of changes on MP and one of our focuses is to put stress on the quality of our entries.

In brief, first and foremost, we will not accept routes that have not been climbed by the contributor. We want well-described descriptions based on first-hand experiences. Secondly, we will not accept plagiarized entries. Anything copied or taken from a guidebook will be deleted.

There is no rush to get every route in the database, route entries take a lot of work and time. We would much rather wait for a quality entry and I feel most users would rather read a quality description. If there is a route you have not climbed, but want to let others know it is there, consider adding it to the area description, ie: "The Upper Prow hosts a number of lines up to .12c, one striking line is called the Sunset Arete .11b, its littered with pockets and looks awkward and challenging"

Before anyone enters an area I ask to please read the Area Guidelines mountainproject.com/scripts…

Before anyone posts a route, please check out the Route Guidelines mountainproject.com/scripts…

In addition to this, consider the first post of a really good thread from a few years back: Area and Route Descriptions in the Wasatch

When writing a description tell as much as you can about the route or area, when your done compare and contrast it to other entries? Critique yourself, sit on it for a day, comeback and read it again? See if there is anything you missed, anything you can add? These entries take work, we realize this, you don't have destroy yourself on one route, but leave your mark, give back to the community here.

Thanks to everyone for your efforts, I get a lot of good ideas and motivation from this state and its contributors. Aug 21, 2013
