Routes in The Belafonte

Description [Suggest Change]

"Let me tell you about my boat"

Although the Belafonte is in bit of a state of disrepair at the moment, with some cleaning this boulder should yield innumerable problems of pretty much any grade one could ask for. From lower angle slabby climbs on the right side to tall scary test-pieces on the left, this boulder is likely to have it all.

We've started cleaning a few problems but as I will soon be leaving SB I thought I'd throw this boulder to the masses because I won't have the time to really put in the effort this boulder needs to shine. If you're motivated, bring a few brushes and a six pack (pack it back out with you of course) and go to town...I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Getting There [Suggest Change]

Take the trail that branches off left at the base of the Kiser Problem and follow it till you hit an unmistakably large boulder with a gash that runs diagonally up and left throughout most of the boulder.

It should be noted that without a doubt people have climbed this boulder before (Kelly can probably shed more light on this). My guess is that when the fires rolled through a few years ago the rock was probably heated and exfoliated rendering a lot of the problems loose and unrecognizable (I've found some old warped Sierra Nevada bottles out here to back this up). Therefore while the problems may seem new, they aren't necessarily. Happy climbing! Jul 17, 2013

I was impressed by this piece of rock. It's huge! Lots of potential. Jul 29, 2013
The boulder was always a tad junky, although I do remember doing the dyno problem on the far left part of the boulder. Really good quality problem, although I do not recommend falling on the upper part. Perhaps V4R. Aug 2, 2013
Does anyone know more about the climbs on the left side or middle of this boulder. Today I did a climb that starts underneath the low roof on a jug left hand side pull and an undercling pocket right hand. You precede into some small half pad crimps to a nice flat jug near the top. It was really fun, a bit chossy on the top out, go check it out. I think it was around a V7/8 compared to the other climbs in the area. Nov 24, 2013

I know which line you're talking about. I always thought it would be cool bet never got around to it, if it's been done Kelly Lindsay would be the one to talk to. Good on ya for getting it done though. If this boulder ever got a serious cleaning there could definitely be some cool problems on the left side for sure. Check out the mini-guide I threw up on the Jah Hole main page if you're looking for some ideas for new problems out there...there's a bunch. Nov 25, 2013
