Access Notes Details
CRAGS and the Access Fund are beginning new projects to help improve access to Donner Summit. You can communicate access issues directly at CRAGS’ Donner Summit page norcalcrags.org/crags/donner/. In 2014, the Truckee Donner Land Trust and the Access Fund jointly launched the Save Donner Climbing campaign. The following year, it purchased formerly private land for public conservation and access, which includes the Black Wall and other nearby cliffs.
Getting ThereExit Donner Pass Road on I-80. At the 4-way stop, drive between the two gas stations. Drive 1/2 mile. Park near locked gate.
Walk into Donner Memorial State Park. Keep the pond on your left and the campground on your right.
After 5 minutes you will see Split Rock.
The GPS for the state park page points to the standard dirtbag free parking described in climbing guides.
But if you happen to be flush and want to support the state park with your use fees, drive straight in the front gate, and check the state park's website for current fees, hours and other info.
