Cats vs. Dogs Wall

Colorado > Golden > Clear Creek Canyon
Warning Access Issue: Seasonal Raptor Closures DetailsDrop down

Description

This crag is just to the right of tunnel #5 when you are facing east on US 6. It is approached from the trail to Catslab. You take the Catslab approach trail for less than a minute across a wooden bridge before heading up the hill to the left (east). The rock gets morning shade and afternoon sun. It is typical Clear Creek rock. The Dog House is to the north, and the Catslab is to the south.

[Hide Comment] I climbed these routes today, and while the rock quality wasn't very good, I had a fun time. Most of the routes have 1 or maybe 2 star movement with a 1/2 star rock quality. Definitely better than they look from the trail, but not worth the effort if you haven't exhausted everything else. Into the Black has a fun, kinda reachy, crux down low. Jun 30, 2013
[Hide Comment] Awesome! I've thought about bolting this way for 10 years! Glad someone motivated and got it done! Thanks for your efforts, Jay. Aug 26, 2013
[Hide Comment] Just to clarify, the Cats vs. Dogs wall is not closed at the moment (6/12/14). I was a bit confused when I saw the gate and the big closed sign, but you can keep walking to just before the tunnel to access this climb and the other climbs on Cats vs Dogs. Jun 12, 2014
[Hide Comment] Movement is fun. Rock quality is iffy. A great wall to get some mileage in on moderates. Jan 25, 2015

[Hide Comment] We did all the routes rated 10b and easier today, and all have cleaned up nicely from the previous times I have been here. Fun moderate routes in a nice setting for CCC. Oct 16, 2016

[Hide Comment] Looking for three very special rings they may have been left behind at the crag. The rings were placed in a black sock and they tied...please write hear if you find the sock/rings. THANKS! Dec 6, 2017
[Hide Comment] Climbed here with a couple of friends and had a great time! There is one multi-pitch at the end that transitions from a 5.7 to about a 10b that was challenging and rewarding. Also, the sun follows the road, so you get complete exposure until sunset. Yes. Oct 3, 2018

[Hide Comment] This whole crag doesn't look super appealing, but the routes here are actually pretty fun. Mar 9, 2019

[Hide Comment] Cell phone taken from crag yesterday, if you live in Lafayette & took someone else's phone home that was ringing so much last night you had to turn it off pm me here...don't be an asshole and take someone else's phone everyone.... Mar 8, 2020
[Hide Comment] Access is easy and straightforward from the parking lot but does require hiking up insecure scree. Belay zones are very insecure and small. Quite hot during mid-day. Jul 12, 2022
[Hide Comment] To whomever borrowed my puffy - you're welcome. Please return my cams. They were not up for loan or borrowing.
Coincidence maybe, but I remember - someone mentioned being from Lafayette. Nov 21, 2022
[Hide Comment] Does anyone know the route about 25' climber's right of Sirius? It's about 30m long and has 12-14 bolts? It starts off low angle on crumbly rock but does get better higher up. Maybe 5.6ish with a two bolt anchor with chains? Jul 23, 2024
