Shropshire

International > Europe > United Kingdom > England

Description

Shropshire is a beautiful county in the West Midlands, often overlooked by climbers as they speed through on the way to Snowdonia. However, there are a few crags of interest, in particular the soft scary sandstone at Nesscliffe and the big limestone quarry at Llanymynech.

Climbing aside, Shropshire has great opportunities to relax on the way to/from Wales, be it wandering around the historic market town of Shrewsbury, or going for a walk in the idyllic Long Mynd hills.

Getting There

The M54 gets you to Shrewsbury from the Midlands, then the A5 continues through the heart of Shropshire, past Shrewsbury and on to North Wales.

The bottom part of "The Pit and the Pendulum". This monster corner is a full 50m in height and very sandy (and scary) in the bottom half. The top half is cleaner and is often climber after an abseil approach.
