Description

Kagevah is located roughly in the center of the Wind River Range. In 1970, Pete Nichols and I lead 4 students into this remote region which probably sees very few visitors. We were hoping to encounter the same quality granite typical of other peaks of the range, and to climb a route which, to the best our knowledge, had no previous ascents.

While the rock quality was disappointing, we did experience a fantastic adventure and a successful climb.

Getting There

Due west of Fort Washakie. I recall the trail in being about 10 miles, but things may have changed in the 40+ years that have elapsed since then. We camped at Sonnicant Lake and climbed the peak in a full day from camp, skirting Lake Kagevah on the south side to the east facing wall and up a couloir to the north ridge.
