The Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent's Compendium states that: 1. Vegetation is not allowed to be used as an anchor. 2. Only neutral or rock colored bolt hangers are allowed.
Visible best from the vicinity of the Gunsmoke Wall but otherwise mostly hidden from view is the huge but mostly broken northeast face of Big Hunk.
Getting There
Approach as for Little Hunk - NE Face (Right) but continue east until able to cut back southeast along the base or approach as for Little Hunk's SW Face Right (Monkey Business Wall) and then scramble over rough terrain to the base. The approach takes 20-25 minutes from the closest parking area.
