Description
Once a staple of all visiting climbers looking to purchase cold beverages, what remains of the Beer Trailer is now a gravel parking lot that hosts access to a crag known for having powerful, bouldery climbs. While there are a handful of routes that are mid-5.11, those looking to extract the most value from a visit should be ready to at least project low 5.12s.
The Beer Trailer has an easy approach. Park at the gravel parking lot and choose either the left or right approach trails. After a very brief uphill hike, you’ll end up immediately in front of the walls. The left trail will have you end up in the area containing Sluts Are Cool (5.12a), and the lesser used right trail will take you directly to the intimidatingly steep Darkness Falls (5.13a). Both trails deposit you near the edge of the holler, and most additional climbs are accessed by following the wall towards the inner portion.
Sluts Are Cool (5.12a) is a staple for the crag, and serves as a perfect introduction to the Beer Trailer’s style, though it’s neighbor to the left Morning Wood (5.12a) should not be overlooked at the same grade. Those looking to test their fingers can’t miss the uber classic Falls City (5.13b), while conversely the wildly steep Darkness Falls (5.13a) will push your forearms to the brink of explosion.
The crag received its namesake from the beer store, C&S Carryout, which once inhabited the majority of what is now the parking lot. Unfortunately, a fire in mid-2023 completely destroyed the Beer Trailer, and the structure remains were bulldozed shortly thereafter. While no people or cats were harmed in the fire, questions were immediately raised regarding the future of access to the crag. Fortunately, the Ventura family (of Miguel’s fame) purchased the land and graciously offered it to climbers to continue to use, free of charge.
