Grand Island

Michigan > Upper Peninsula > Munising

Description

As per "An Ice Climber's Guide to Munising Michigan," 28 miles of shoreline, much of it 60m cliffs, a mile off shore of the mainland. Inaccessible unless the ice over the channel is sufficiently formed, or unless you have a boat.

The Local Guidebook, An Ice Climber’s Guide to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, by local climbers Bill Thompson, Jon Jugenheimer, and Matt Abbotts, is a MUST HAVE resource. Buy a copy. downwindsports.com/guiding/…

Getting There

Check with park service before crossing the lake!

Cross at the public access on the peninsula just west of town (Munising). Sand Point is closer, but the current keeps the lake ice thinner.
