Description
A beautiful narrow N-S trending canyon that is good spot to escape the constant winds that blow through the more popular Keystone Canyon. The main attraction here is the sunny Rain Check WI4.
Getting There
Driving from Valdez, pass through the Keystone Canyon area and Bear Creek is the first major canyon on the left side of the road, marked by an obvious train bridge that passes over the creek. The crux of the approach is finding suitable parking along the highway here. Pull off as far as you can, or maybe you'll get lucky and the parking lot across the highway will be plowed. Ski/snowshoe up the creek and under the bridge into the narrow canyon. 10-20 minute approach time.
