Description

A good climbing destination in Snowdonia, mostly consisting of water ice climbing but with some short mixed sections on some routes. The altitude means that something will come in most winters, but don't expect it to stay around for too long!

The major classics of the area are the Devil's Kitchen (WI3) - a very atmospheric ice fall at the back of the deep cleft that bears the same name - and the ephemeral Devil's Appendix (WI5+) - a long water ice climb that to the right, which forms most winters, but not for long. An easier outing is the Idwal Stream, always popular on a winter's day.

Getting There

Approach on the A5 and park at the Idwal Cottage at the West end of Llyn Ogwen. The approach is maybe an hour's walk up a good, well-maintained footpath.
