Description [Suggest Change]
To some discerning eyes (and with imagination/pareidolia) this formation appears to be the head of an elephant, facing south. The massive and steep east face of the Elephant Head is the first, and the largest, formation encountered when making the approach to Texas Canyon. The East Face is destinguished by the large caves along the base of the wall. The East Face is labeled as The Caves in Troy Mayr's 2004 Southern California Sport Climbing (3rd edition).
Getting There [Suggest Change]
From the parking area, follow the dirt road, west, past the locked gate. The East Face of the Elephant Head is the formation with the caves, as the crags of Texas Canyon come into view.
