Split Rock
California
> Lake Tahoe
> Highway 50 Corr…
> Sugarloaf Area
Description
Named for the big split in the middle of the rock that forms the route Chim-Chiminey. All the routes on this formation are tightly bolted single pitch sport routes with easy access on and off the rock, making this area a good spot to stop and warm up, or a place to start learning the ropes of leading and further develop your skills and confidence.
Getting There
Immediately east of the main trail, high up near the Sugarloaf itself.
[Hide Photo] The Split looking gorgeous and somehow still climbable in the snow.
[Hide Photo] The west face of Split Rock at Sugarloaf.
[Hide Photo] Split Rock west face slab routes. Both are 5.9-ish-ish, not too different from TriTip Split Roast. The right route is called Fossilmax, and the left is Prime Rib.
[Hide Comment] Does anyone know who put up the ugly pair of squeeze jobs just left of "Tri-tip Split Roast"? Looks like it had to have been a noob wanting to leave their mark who just got a drill for Christmas. Bright, cheap Fusion hangers, button-head bolts not fully seated, and way too many for a 4th-class lichen climb. They should be removed.

[Hide Comment] Anyone know what the left-most route on the West Face is called, left of Prime Rib? In one of the pictures, there are ropes running down Fossilmax (right) and Prime Rib (left), but there's another route left (north) of those.
