Lost Elden

Arizona > Northern Arizona > Flagstaff Area > Mt Elden Crags

Description

Lost Elden is a small cirque of quality dacite just North of the old school bouldering hide-away "The Bird Sanctuary". This small area has seen few climbers throughout the years and only hosts a dozen or less quality single pitches.

Getting There

Park as you would for "The Bird Sanctuary", hike North up steep slabs and terrain avoiding cactus, yucca, and unpleasantness. Routes are scattered and not centralized.

Like many secluded areas of S.Elden the approach has potential remnants of native pottery, please avoid stepping on or destroying the pottery. IT IS A CRIME to disturb objects of Archaeological Significance.

[Hide Comment] Stumbled upon this area when walking the dog. The lines look really sick! Has anyone tried or done the large ominous offwidth out of the main area and way off to the left and up? Feb 9, 2014

[Hide Comment] Jacob- The line Im guessing you looked at (semi-obvious) has been done. Its actually two separate pitches. You can easily find the base, look for some webbing around a tree on a ledge... Feb 10, 2014

[Hide Comment] I'd love to go check this place out...love the dacite!
This area mentions access from a place called "the Bird Sanctuary." However, no such place exists on MP. Is there a more succinct access point available? I'm all for adventure and going up looking for rocks...just want to know where to park and walk in.
Is the GPS accurate? Feb 20, 2020

[Hide Comment] The Bird Sanctuary is an old bouldering area below Lost Elden. The GPS is spot on. You can park on E El Paso Dr. and the hike up is fairly obvious as Lost Elden is the only large cliff line around. Feb 21, 2020
