Getting weather forecast...

This rock is located just beyond the tree line behind the Rinks at Exeter, so it gets some sunlight but not much throughout the day. The rock quality is great and the boulder offers plenty of awesome routes with a wide range of difficulty. Some routes could use some cleaning but all in all it looks great.

Getting There

40 Industrial Drive Exeter, NH. Behind the right side of the ice rink is a large rock. Follow a narrow footpath over this rock to the boulder. See map

Is here just this one boulder out here or are the other options too? Jan 13, 2013
Just this boulder, but its pretty big. There are a lot of routes yet to be posted. Jan 13, 2013

There are actually several medium-sized boulders along the trails in the Henderson-Swasey town forest. I haven't seen them without snow, but I'd bet at least a few of them have route potential. Jan 15, 2013

We did about half a dozen obvious lines there one day last summer. Most everything was chalked so there is clearly some traffic.
To my knowledge the climbing the prow in the photo from directly below is an open project that has shut down some strong climbers. It will go but somewhere between V-hard and V-silly over a spicy landing. Jan 15, 2013
I have spent some time wandering around the Henderson-Swasey forest also, as well the the Oakland town forest on the other side of the highway. Last week in the Oakland trails I found one rock in particular with some really great looking finger cracks as well as some pretty daunting face routes. looking forward to spending some more time out there soon. this boulder and some of the swasey boulders were climbed in the mid eighties, fort rock also has some pretty good bouldering as well. If i were you guys I would look down the street from fort rock where the bridge passes over 101 both sides of 101 heading west, there is some pretty awesome stuff out there. Feb 12, 2013

I climbed and took pictures of a half dozen boulders at fort rock today. There is definitely more to do out there, and the stuff I did get on was way fun. Wondering if there should be a page for Exeter and make the "rinks boulder" a sub category. Nov 19, 2013
Hey all-

i suppose someone would have posted this stuff up eventually. Mike Veazey has compiled a guide for almost all the boulder in the Exeter area and I (Ri) have taken to slowly putting them into a legitimate format. I'll post the jpg for the Exeter boulder and if you ask nice I may eventually get around to posting the others up as well. Until then contact me through MP or New England reSoul if you want info or a tour. Apr 17, 2014
Also- this is generally just known as "The Exeter Boulder" Apr 17, 2014

Rich, as far as I'm aware, it hasn't gone yet. The landing is not great either. I could be wrong though, but I imagine it must be damn hard (v12-13+). Jun 3, 2016

Why have these problems been posted with different names and grades than Ri gave for them on his topo/boulder guide?? Sep 11, 2018

Looks like the names correlate to the guide photo posted. Yellow font is hard for me to read so I can’t tell for sure. Is there a different guide? Sep 12, 2018

Dan- Things look slightly more accurate now because they were changed. Though the grades are still quite off, with inflated grades given on several of them. I've climbed every line on this boulder (except for the project) and I thought the grades that Ri gives in his guide were spot or, if anything, a bit on the soft side. Sep 12, 2018

Okay cool. I was planning on climbing out here at some point and wanted to be sure things were accurate. Sep 12, 2018

Dan, opposite the Prow Project is The Arete, V4. It’s a must-do. Jackknife is sick too, but not as good as The Arete IMO. Sep 12, 2018
