Description

This tiny crag is located on Castle Mountain directly above the townhomes across the road from Nicky's. It hardly seems worth a look given all the other nearby rock, but since I live just a half mile away, I discovered it while looking for a place to set up a toprope anchor and do some rope-soloing. The rock is quality, a bit like the Pear, and it contains at least one worthy route. The longest climb is approximately 170 feet, even though it looks shorter. Descend to the west.

I named it Castle Slab, but if it's first ascentionists have another name for it, I'll be happy to change it.

Getting There

On Fall River Road, about a mile and a half west of the main intersection of US 34 and US 36, look for Niki's Restaurant on the left. Soon after will be some wood-sided townhomes on the right. Park in the large pullout just beyond these and hike up and right to the base of the rock.
