Description
Eagle Rock, a.k.a School Rock. An excellent spot to start if you have never been outdoors as there are a number of varied routes with great holds in the 5.5 to 5.9 range, and all the bolts are easily accessible via a scramble up to the right of the area.
Most climbers will mewl that it isn't worth the hike or is too basic but if you are just starting outdoors and don't want to instantly tackle Leavenworth, Exit 38 etc, then this area is perfect for learning to rappel, set up topropes, and get used to the height and feel of outdoor climbing in a non-crowded location spurned by more advanced climbers.
It also has a splendid view all the way to Seattle and get's sun most of the day. The spots to belay are in the shade.
Use webbing or slings on most of the anchors to get the rope over the edge otherwise there'll be a fair bit of rope drag

Getting There
To the trailhead: From Bremerton follow Kitsap Way (State Route 310) for 3 miles to Kitsap Lake. Turn left on Northlake Way, proceeding for 1 mile. Turn left onto the Seabeck Highway and follow it for 3 miles. Then turn left on Holly Road, proceeding for 3 miles. Turn left (south) onto Tahuya Lake Road and in 1.25 miles bear left onto Gold Creek Road. The trailhead is in 2 miles on your left. Privy available.
To the area: From the parking area (you need a Discover Pass) head to the left and follow the Gold Creek trail. Go right at the first fork and you should have the creek on your right as you follow the trail. Eventually (20 mins) you'll see a small deliberate pile of rocks on the left marking a small stream bed coming out of the woods with a culvert and on your right will be an area of open pond-like water. Head straight into the woods, following the rocky streambed. It'll end amidst ferns, vear slightly to the left and you should pick up the trail in a few yards. It's a steep and energetic hike up to the bottom of the area (30-45 minutes). Bright lots of water especially on a hot day since you probably be sweating before you even get to the crag.
