DescriptionThis is wooded area across the Elk River from Seedhouse Road at Boulder Park. Boulders have fallen from the cliffs above and provided several fun and secluded boulder spots. There are no trails, and it requires a river crossing, but the underbrush is not thick and provided the river is not swollen it is an easy crossing. Plus, the majority of the boulders are perhaps 100 - 200 yards past the river, so the total approach time is very short. There a both boulders good quality and chossy, and there is a lot of room for development. This can be a very fun place to come and wander around for an afternoon, with a short approach but still a shady, secluded feel in the woods. Bring bug spray if you're coming after 10 a.m. Expect odd looks from fishermen on the Elk River.
Driving time from town: 45 minutes. Approach time: 5 minutes.
Getting ThereFrom Steamboat Springs, take Elk River Road North out of town. Turn East onto Seedhouse Road. Once you see the Vista Verde Guest Ranch on your left, drive approximately 2 miles more. Once you see Boulder Park on your right, drive approximately 300 more yards to the next pull off on the right. From the pulloff, follow a little trail 10 yards to the river and cross. The main boulder with the problem "Waltz in the Woods" is about 50 yards straight South to the base of the cliffs. Boulders can be found both direction along the base of the cliffs.
