Description

This 100 foot high limestone crag is located downstream of Luang Prabang, Laos just above the Mekong River. The cliff generally faces south.

Getting There

The easiest way to experience the climbing at the Gecko Wall would be to hire a guide from Jewel Travel Laos (www.jeweltravellaos.com) in Luang Prabang.

If you decide you want to try to reach this area on your own, do the following:
1) From downtown Luang Prabang, hire a longtail boat to take you downstream on the Mekong.
2) After about 20 minutes of motoring, you will reach a point where there are cliffs on both sides of the river. The Gecko Wall is on the right side of the river, across from the golf course.
3) If your boatman has been to the crag previously, he should have an idea where to pull up to the right bank. The riverbank is heavily vegetated and it is hard to find the access trail if you don't already know where it is.
4) Once you've landed, follow the steep and slick access trail about 75 feet up to the cliff. Just left of where the main access trail arrives at the cliff should be a large cleared area with an overhanging wall above.

To reach the routes established by a British guy named "Dan" for the adventure travel company Green Discovery (who claim ownership of these routes!!!!), go to the right (upstream). To reach the routes first developed in August 2012 (which are to be enjoyed by everyone), go left (downstream).
