Description [Suggest Change]

Recently established, FA's 2005, located near the small town of Salto. The crags are on both sides of the Sra do Salto River. Mostly exposed to the sun, very little shade or trees. Secluded, known by word of mouth, not in guide book for Portugal as of October 2009.

Getting There [Suggest Change]

From Porto, head east on A4 for about 10 kilometers. Take the Campo exit, turn right after about 200 meters. Follow the road for 5k towards Recarel. Follow the signs to Salto for another 5k. Once in Salto, follow the road that leads down towards the river. At the bottom there will be a church up on a small hill. Park at the bottom of the hill in the large dirt area.

There is seven different sections in this area. The first two are up the hill behind the church. Three through five are across the river along the road you drove in on the parking area. The six and seven are up the hill away from the church to the Southwest.

The route description/coordinates will get you there. This place is 30-45 min outside of Porto, so easily accessible by car, but difficult any other way (I would expect). After following the MP directions, park in the circle outside the church. If you follow the road as it becomes a dirt path you will find some short roadside sport climbs that looked to be in the 8 to 11 range. We did one 8 or 9ish slab route. If you leave the circle below the church and walk past the picnic benches you will get to the river and cross a narrow suspension bridge. Follow the obvious path to the left, and use gym holds bolted onto the rock to move up and right up the ridge. Moving up the ridge will take you past different routes. We ran out of time to fully explore what happened when you went got to the top of the ridge. On the opposite side of the ridge are a bunch of routes, including perma-draws in a cave that looked like they were in the 12-13 range. I didn't figure out how to get there, but I think if you go up the hill to where the church is, and then come down on the routes from above, or instead of going over the bridge, get to the cave routes from the bottom. In conclusion, do the short, roadside routes if you don't have much time, otherwise, I would explore the routes on either side of the bridge, which seemed longer and more interesting. 15 hours ago
