DescriptionThe Wild Horse Area is comprised of sandstone boulders sporadically located along a 0.25 mile span of the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Area access road. Approaches are short, landings are generally good, and the rock quality is mixed.
Tread lightly though, as the area is ambiguously nestled near private property. It is difficult to distinguish where the right-of-way/wild horse study public area/coal company private land boundaries are located.
Getting ThereFrom I-70 in De Beque Canyon, take the Cameo Exit. From there, pass over the Colorado River and the nearby Cameo Coal Plant. Follow the maintained dirt road for another ~ 1.5 miles. At this point, the boulders will be visible on the right-hand side of the road. Several pullouts access the area, and the boulders are mostly within 20 yards of the road/pullout.
