[Hide Comment] Sicily is an island of many contrasts. Beautiful, pristine, clean country sides, beaches and towns; except where trash is piled waist high. The nicest, friendliest, hospitable people you could hope for; except for when they are behind the wheel of their cars. Beautiful fine sand beaches and rocky craggy shorelines. Fertile planes and mountains. There is one consistency, the limestone is beautiful and extremely fun to climb. The rock can be vertical and sharp or steep with tuffas. You can pick crags that are in the mountains or crags that jut up from the sea. What ever type of limestone climbing you could dream of Sicily has it, with the added bonus of historical sites and good cheap food.
Sicily is a big island, a car is required if you want easy access to the climbing and sites. Lodging accommodations are abundant, camping, hotels, apartments, and villas can be found anywhere on the island. If you are into camping San Vito Lo Capo is the perfect spot with choices of primitive sites along the sea and developed camping. The camping area of El Bahira (near S.V.L.C.) has everything from tent sites to cabins, with hundreds of routes within a few minutes walk.
Sicily is a magical and complicated island that should not be missed by the adventurous climber/traveler. Navigate the crazy streets of Palermo then visit the small mountain top towns like Erice. Adventure is around every corner on the island of the Cyclops. Jun 15, 2012

[Hide Comment] You don't wanna climb in the sun during Summer. You'll get COOKED! Good thing there are a LOT of bolted caves! Jan 9, 2017
