Getting weather forecast...

A series of boulders known as the Davis Boulders as well as a very large boulder called Goodrich Rock mark the highlights of this particular trail on the way to Greeley Pond. Perhaps a prime location for a large variety of boulder problems along the way, the Goodrich Rock has at least one established line, the landmark being an old piton before a nice overhanging crack that leads up to a nice vertical to the top of the boulder. A variety of other nice short lines surround the boulder on all sides, and access to the top is very easy as there is a nice rustic ladder on the backside that leads to the top.

Getting There

Go to the Greeley Pond / Mount Osceola trailhead near the Waterville Valley ski area, and follow the signs to the Goodrich Rock Trail.

This place is full of potential for FA boulder problems. High ball, low ball, easy, and hard for anyone looking for some new action. I'm not much of a boulder bum myself, but I'd still like to see some of the hard boys put up some new V-10s!! May 2, 2012

After reading Ryan's comments about this area, I went to have a look to see for myself. He was right--this area has amazing potential for bouldering. Along with some friends, Kayte and I have put up about forty problems so far and it feels like we have not scratched the surface.

The Davis Boulders and Goodrich Rock might become a Central NH bouldering destination. The best comparator might be Pawtuckaway because the rock is similar. Some have remarked that this area is better than Blair Woods. I venture to add that with some love and development, it might rival Boulder Natural. But, unlike P-Way, this area is guarded by a two-mile hike, so it's unlikely to get overrun. I hope it stays as beautiful and pristine as it felt when we bouldered today.

A few notes: I found this area after taking a year-long hiatus from climbing. This quiet spot provided me a peaceful place to get back into the groove. But, my grading might be off.

FA's: We were very aware that others may have bouldered here, since the area is right on a popular trail. The problems where we claimed FA's required extensive cleaning. If I need to change the FA info, please let me know.

Right now, all of our activity has been in the Davis Boulders, as this area seems to offer the most concentrated and user-friendly bouldering in the area. The Goodrich Rock area, however, looks like it might yield maybe 20 more problems. We also found a new area, in a new valley, that we aptly called The Discovery Area.

So, take Ryan's advice. Check it out! Nov 23, 2012

Thanks and welcome back Jay! Always thought that a bouldering circuit would make this area complete. Ta Da!!!! Dickey and Sandwich are two fun spots for some "quiet" time if your into that sort of thing. Campton campground also never seems to be that hectic during the season for those of us unfortunate to live in the area. Some great swimming holes too. Nov 24, 2012

Thanks man! With the Davis Boulders, Dickey Ledge, and Sandwich Notch, there's a good bit of climbing to be done in the Waterville Area. Such a great alternative to the Rumney craziness. Nov 26, 2012

Found one shoe on the approach today. Let me know if you get ready to send your next problem and feel like something's missing.
