A new No Trespassing sign has been added and the rancher has requested that there is no longer any climbing at this location. It has been confirmed with BC Forestry and Lands that the rancher has exclusive rights to this land.
A dialog with the rancher has been started in the hopes to regain access, however in the meantime, please respect the No Trespassing order and no longer climb at Prickly Pear.

Description
Prickly Pear Canyon Is a new development west of Kamloops. The area features vertical basalt columns on good quality rock up to around 15 meters high. It is not a very big area having only 7 bolted routes and a few trad options, but is well worth a visit. It is a good place to go if you want to avoid the rain of Squamish in the spring or fall. It is in a vary dry area receiving little rain and lots of sun. Since the cliffs are south facing they can be very hot in the summer, but would make a nice evening climb. As with many of the climbing areas in this area, Prickly Pear Canyon receives very little traffic. Watch out for the Prickly Pear cacti which are all over the ground.
There is a free guidebook that was made by the Kamloops Climbing Access Fund which includes Prickly Pear Canyon that can be downloaded at there website: climbkamloops.ca

Getting There
From Cache Creek take Highway 1 towards Kamloops for about 10 Km. You will see a yellow gate on the left and a small pull off on the right. Park there. From Kamloops drive west on Highway 1 through Savona. It is 28 km from the Super-Save gas station. From this direction the gate will be on the right. Walk around the gate, do not jump the fence. From there follow the dirt road to the right for about 250m until you see a trail to the left toward the cliff. In total it is an easy 5 minute walk from the car.
