Description
The Roadside Formation is about 10.2 miles north of Vernal on the East side of hwy 191 and visible from the road as you cross Big Brush Creek. The wall is west facing and in a small gorge so it gets sun mostly during midday. The formation is Chinle and is a sort of conglomerate river bottom that contains pebbles and petrified wood.
Getting There
From Vernal follow 191 north for 10.2 miles. As you come down the hill through a gap in the rocks there is a small creek and you will see the formation on the right. Turn right on a small dirt road (about 200 yards before the right turn to the Battleships) that has guardrails on both sides and park in the clearing. Walk down the rutted road to the south with the formation up to your left.
- The desert is a very fragile environment, to avoid access issues please stay on marked trails, game trails, slick rock, or in washes.
