Description

140ft of N.E.W.Ice - It's a wide one and two parties could climb it at same time: one party on the left wall that is thinner than the actual waterfall ice to climb, W.I.4+. Another party will have plenty of room to choose how to make it up the central water fall also. It's probably all together 50 yards wide. Trees are plentiful to belay at the top of the falls from. great W.I.3+ Fat ice all the ways up the falls. How many screws is up to you.
Plenty of views of the falls on the internet in the winter and the rest of the year. Popular with hikers and climbers and there's lots images on the internet.

Getting There

A well marked sign on 302, Crawford Notch, on the east when heading to Bartlet, Before the entrance gate to the Notch. Go up the road and access of this old road to the railroad tracks is open in the winter. [Same parking as for Frankenstein Ice Climbing]

Near the tracks is a parking area. 1.6 to the falls. Take the trail back and this can be top roped. Not an easy approach although it is usually on a packed trail so snowshoes on most days aren't needed. return the same way you went in back to your car.

I don't think it should be under the Frankenstein section Dec 20, 2012

I didn't think it would be under Frankenstein. These areas are far apart and share a parking lot. No way I can remove the post by me. Dec 19, 2012

This area was already submitted under the "Frankenstein" section, though it's clearly not part of Frankenstein. Maybe one of the local admins can clean it up? Maybe there should be a "Crawford Notch" page that includes everything from Frank, to the Webster gullies and Mt. Willard??? Thoughts? Dec 9, 2012
