Description Suggest change

Atypical granite bouldering on a small cliffband and several freestanding boulders. The rock here is very steep and blocky, reminiscent of the quartzite of the more famous Gunks of New York. Many horizontal slashes and crack features make this spot a welcome change from the slabs and knobs so prevalent in Tuolumne. Bright green lichen adorns many of the problems. This area is shady most of the day, making it a good choice in midsummer.

Getting There Suggest change

Trail reroute due to 2022 road construction.  2.4 miles west of the Tuolumne Store, park at a long pullout on the north side of the highway at the top of the hill. Look for a carabiner post sign across the road, use the steppingstones to cross the gully and then follow cairns and logs to the Tuolumne to Tenaya trail.  Go right, walk downhill for 3 minutes to the original Gunks approach.
