Description

The Cimone della Pala has been called "the Matterhorn of the Dolomites," and with good cause. Driving to the valley base of San Martino di Castrozza from either Trento or Bolzano over Passo Rolle, this magnificent peak is the first member of the Pala Group encountered. Almost everyone stops and takes a picture of this attractive mountain, and the principal climbing route is nearest the camera: the NW Ridge.

Getting There

From Bolzano or Trento from the West,; San Martino di Castrozza as a valley base.

Wow! I just revisited the Rolle Pass after an interval of 50 years had passed. I was simply overwhelmed by the sheer size of the mountain; obviously the years intervening allowed it to do a lot of shrinking in my mind. This sucker is HUGE! Sep 17, 2013
