Description

Los Sabinos is, in some ways, the gem of La Presa. Climbing in the shade during any part of the day and taking a dip in the adjacent Río Nazas are much welcomed respites from the heat, allowing climbers to climb here even during the peak of summer. Though the people of Graceros refer to it as Paseo de las Agilas because of the eagles that are painted (graffiti) at several locations at the bottom of the cliff, the local climbers refer to it as Los Sabinos after the large Montezuma Cypress (called Sabino in Spanish) trees that grow between the river and the cliff. These majestic trees provide much-welcomed shade for climber and belayers alike. Unlike the vertical routes at Las Ventanas or El Relis de los Venados, routes at Los Sabinos are somewhat slab; here the limestone here is less sharp, and more cracks have been bolted.

Directions

Drive almost all the way through the town of Graceros. Right before you get to the Castea de Cobra (a small blue building where the town charges an entrance fee to the park and where often they set up cones) turn right onto a dirt road. Follow that road until you get to the river and turn left. Cross the river and continue onto the dirt road. Once you cross the river again, the cliff face of Los Sabinos will be obvious to your right. Park along the fence-row or drive to the leftmost side and park to avoid having to cross the fence.
