The WCCC with the help of the Mesa County Search and Rescue and realtor Christi Reece has negotiated access to the upper cliff band at Bullet Hole. This access is with the understanding that we not go on top of the cliff as it is soon to be someone's back yard. We tried to get an easement to access the top at first, but the developer shot it down. The access we have for now is permitted by the developer, but when the property sells the new owner has the right to shut it down on their property if they choose. For developed climbs listed on MP, this would affect Fingers, Bubblicious, Mustachio, and Chimney. All other developed climber are on city land and should not be affected.

Over the last week, Jose Iglesias, Director of the Technical Rescue team for Mesa County SAR, and I went up and replaced all of the top anchors and moved them to the face so that topping out would not be necessary. We also put in bolts in for leading on a few climbs.

Christi Reece was a huge help in this. Though not a climber herself, she sees the benefit of preserving our outdoor recreational resources. Being the lead realtor for these properties, she acted as a go between with the developer and convinced them that keeping climbing open would be beneficial to the development. She has also helped the WCCC in the past with land acquisition in Unaweep. If you ever run into her, make sure to thank her for her efforts in keeping climbing areas open.

I think a couple of folks from the WCCC are already on it and looking to both find out information and resolve the issue. Hope you're doing well, Jared! Mar 30, 2015

Get in touch with the Western Colorado Climbers Coalition and find out if this indeed on private property. If it is not, they need to be notified that they have no business removing anchors etc.

Good for beginners like myself. Unfortunately Redlands Mesa security kicked me off the cliff band, said I was trespassing and they were going to be removing the fixed anchors. Mar 29, 2015

Some fun, short cracks here. I don't think it's necessary to bring a rope up to this cliff. The climbs are no more than about 15-20 feet tall, so they are easily boulder-able. Maybe if you were coming here to learn crack climbing skills, a rope would be useful... but it's not a great venue for that anyway. Sep 7, 2012
