Upper Tier (Bocco Area)

Colorado > Eagle/Vail/Mint… > Wolcott Crags & Boulders
Warning Access Issue: Trestle and CMC areas are off limits. DetailsDrop down

Description

This area gets sun most of the day. It appeared to be climbed but not so much that things are polished and such.

Getting There

Walk east of the boulders to the end of the campsites. Get on the railroad tracks and head west. About a half mile down, a hiker's trail will be on your right. Follow this trail up to the main Tier Wall.

Per Mark Hahn: at the start of the hiker's trail, there is a large rock under a cattle fence alongside the railroad tracks. The trail climbs the rock making it easy to step over the cattle fence and continue up the trail.

2 bolted routes left of "Corner."<br>
<br>
The left route on the face felt 5.10c and had really fun balancy and delicate moves with good stances to clip. 5 bolts.<br>
<br>
The right one on the arete felt a bit easier with only one kinda awkward 5.10b? move at the first bolt and 5.9+ for the rest. 4 bolts.<br>
<br>
There were also anchors for a TR on the left side. Looked thin, and the juniper tree is kinda in the way.

The trail from railroad tracks. While on tracks, hike past canyon. The trail is at rock below cattle fence. If you reach island on the Eagle River, you went too far.

[Hide Comment] Could you be a little more descriptive to help identify the routes? I have been up there at least 15 times, yet from the descriptions you have entered, I have no idea which routes you are talking about. Oct 26, 2011
[Hide Comment] A guidebook by Tim Nottingham is for sale at the Bag and Pack shop in Avon. Great book. Many more routes than you would realize. Mar 14, 2012
[Hide Comment] Does anyone know what this route to the right of early start is? It's unfinished for sure.... Top out and there is nowhere to go. Also, the first bolt is in the dead tree? What the hell?
