Main Climbing Crags/Boulders

Virginia > Central & South… > Charlottesville… > Blue Ridge Parkway > Old Howardsville Turn…

Description

Lots and lots of climbing to be done in this specific area of the parkway....tough access, but worth it for the solitude.

Lots of great bouldering and some insanely overhung cliffs reaching heights of 70 feet.

Bear with me as I try to make all the information flow in a sensible and, hopefully, logical manner.

Getting There

From parking lot take the Blue spur trail to the A.T. and once join with the A.T. continue heading SOUTH for about 10 minutes.

The trail will be very flat with no obvious turns. When you do reach the first obvious turn in the trail it'll be a sharp RIGHT. You'll notice a side/secondary trail veering left...follow that and over the down logs covering the trail. In a few meters this secondary trail makes a sharp turn left....rather than following trail head straight down mountain. You'll have to fight off the thick mountain laurel for a few minutes before you start to reach the first cluster of rocks.

+++++++++Don't charge down the mountain too fast as you could charge right off the end of one of cliffs...Take your time to get to know the flow of this area. An updated topo map is highly recommended+++++
