Description

Its hard not to miss the viewpoint on of the giant limestone wall on the way to Miette Hotsprings and wonder what the climbing is like. With a small number of known established lines on the cliff, the potential for route development is massive. Rock quality is excellent (by local standards) and favorable weather make this an excellent climbing destination.

Getting There

From Jasper drive northeast towards Hinton and turn right on the road to Miette Hotsprings. About 15 minutes in you will come to the obvious viewpoint of Ashlar ridge. This is a good spot to examine the routes and the approach trail. There is a creek crossing and several small cliffbands to negotiate before getting to the base of the cliff. Continue driving past the hairpin turn for a couple more minutes to a small pullout on the left. Park here and follow a faint trail down to the river. Other than spring or after large rains, the water should be only knee deep if you choose the correct crossing. Head left to find the break in the first big cliffband then generally trend right scrambling through two more cliffbands (much smaller). If you are lucky you will find a faint trail up through the forest but don't count on it, its mostly bushwacking. 1 - 1.5 hours to the base of the cliff.
