Getting weather forecast...

Two boulders. Both of good size but with limited routes. Good local problems if your limited on time.

Getting There

In Amherst NH. From Moultons Market, go right towards the town hall. Go right onto mack hill road. Then take a right onto dodge road and follow it all the way till the end. Take a left onto austin road, and the area is on your left. You will see one of the boulders from the road. The other (and better in my opinion) is a very short hike up a trail on the back side of the big boulder. Stay straight on the trail and it will loop around a field of smaller boulders and you will see a bigger one to your right.

Regarding the few comments above about the pulpit.. I hiked through with just my crash pad last week and was pretty amazed. Tons of potential just was not sure on access issues.. There has to be some history here? Sep 4, 2015
I grew up near pulpit rock and for as long as I can remember there has been a nut in that crack where someone had to bail. I haven't looked at it in years but all I remember is the pure intimidation factor. I bouldered there a little while I was in high school and remember seeing some potential for harder stuff, now that I am stronger I may go back and see what the story is. I've explored that area extensively so if I find enough rock I may start a page for it. If anyone has suggestions I am looking for lines, I do remember seeing chalk at the entrance of the pulpit cave way back when on a highball that was beyond me as far as difficulty goes. Sep 7, 2013

I know the crack you speak of Chas, but no, I have never been on it myself.. Conditions have never been "favorable" haha Mar 9, 2012
speaking of amherst area climbing.... Adam, did you guys ever climb that crack to the left of the pulpit rock waterfall?? that thing is full on! sucks it could only be climbed in the winter Dec 30, 2011
that first big boulder by the parking lot has a cool two move wonder on the arete on the uphill overhung side, has a mossy top but probably the best route there maybe v5 or so? Dec 30, 2011

Don't mean to bum anyone out but all the problems listed have been climbed by friends of mine and myself, circa 1999-2000. We thought they were fun but didn't see any point in cleaning them as there is better stuff around. I'm psyched you guys are getting out and cleaning lines, just be aware that most boulders in the area have been scoured by highly motivated Souhegan students back in the day.. Dec 13, 2011

AMEN, haha. Really hoping to get out and find some new boulders in the area this week. Found a trail map that labeled quite a few erratics and even a quarry! Oct 23, 2011

Haha yeah man there are some awesome routes here waiting to be sent. I'm glad that the quartz section is a v8. Because I spent like 30 mins trying to find a starting hold haha. Oct 19, 2011
