Description

Lots of limestone cliffs, features, and small boulders.

A prominent feature of the landscape is the precipitous rock bluff of limestone know as Table Mound.

Scouted within the state park for a couple days. We found some sweet bouldering overhangs, but the rock was absolute choss. I suppose it is possible you might be able to clean down to a solid layer, but that seems unlikely.

We did find some stuff that was solid, but it was too short to even bother with. There is good rock (relatively speaking) within the Elk City Lake area, but we didn't really find anything worthwhile in the state park.

Just for reference, we explored the Table Mound Trail (which does have good stuff at the other end, but you should approach from the Memorial Overlook) and the Green Thumb trail. There might be something of interest off the Green Thumb trail, but given the chossy nature of most of the rock in that area, we didn't do the uphill hike. May 2, 2015
