Getting weather forecast...

Description

EFW is a nice top rope wall located in the gully between Combat Rock and the parking area. It has a 2-3 minute approach. The route grades vary from 5.5 to 5.11. EFW is often a nice place on a warm day as it is not as exposed to the full sun all day long. It is granite and gneiss, and there are two sets of chains at the top. One set is directly above the main wall the other is down and to the left, perhaps 25 feet down from the pine tree at top left. You can also sling the tree for a good TR.

Getting There

From Loveland, take US Highway 34 west towards Estes Park. When you get to the fork in the road at Drake, go right on County Road 43. Turn right on the forest service road just a couple of hundred yards after the fork. Go up the road and continue through the switchbacks, perhaps 1 mile up the road. Park as for Combat Rock, just past the last switchback. Walk down the trail to the bottom of the gully. EFW is the 70 foot slab just before you head uphill to Combat.

Also there are 5 bolts to the right of the face down low to help teach how anchors work. Great beginners' playground. Apr 5, 2015

Cool, thanx for the beta, Al. I am gonna check that out next time! Looks thin and fun. May 21, 2013
Preston, in the photo listed "great spot for the kids" you will see a block down and to the left of the climber. Directly under this is a thin slabby start (15 feet or so). In the photo, there is a round spot of lichen. I believe this start getting to that block is 5.11. Al May 17, 2013

Climbed this slab yesterday. I thought it was really fun and a great place to do some afternoon rope soloing or teach a new climber. My opinion the hardest route I found was maybe 5.9+/10a thin slab, the rest felt 5.7 or easier...not sure where the 5.11 is? May 14, 2013

Great spot to take the family! Easy walk in and plenty of space for the kids to play around while we climb. Easy TR set up and good routes for my 6 and 8 year old to climb. May 5, 2012
Thanks for pointing out my error. Fixed. Allen Sep 29, 2011

I'm thinking you maybe turn right onto the forest service road, rather than left. Sep 24, 2011
