Getting weather forecast...

Located in Salina, KS. One overhung boulder at Indian Rock Park offers routes from v0 to v4ish. Located off of the trail to the base of the bluff, this boulder has been unknown and unclimbed until recently. Some cleaning has been done. Great stop from weary I-70 travelers, best chunk of rock in Kansas.

Getting There

pretty easy to find in Salina. Just follow main trails in park and you're golden.

At least be willing to use complete sentences when giving location discriptions. Is there more than one park in Salina? Where is the park located? Nov 15, 2011

I checked this place out. The current instructions suffice just fine- no worries! I have some great photos to post when I get a minute. A worthwhile stop if you are in the area. If you live locally, this rock has some solid problems to keep you entertained for a bit. Aug 20, 2012

To find the boulder, start at the parking area at the northwest corner of the park, just off of Indiana Ave. near Gypsum Ave. Take the trail directly in front of the parking, heading down hill and into the trees. You'll see the boulder across the pond. Go left or right around the pound to reach it.

We found the boulder to be pretty dirty and chossy. I was pulling off quite a bit of rock and some of the holds were really slimy from runoff. That being said, the problem that starts in the back right of the cave and climbs straight out is really fun, with the topout being the crux at V5/6. Overall, some really cool lines, it's just unfortunate that the rock quality is subpar. Maybe if it got more traffic it would clean up, but the rock seems to be sandstone conglomerate, and the standstone part isn't exactly bullet. Jun 11, 2013
my kids and I go climb this maybe once a week it is pretty fun for a very unexperienced climber

I visit this area every time I go back to visit my parents. First of all there are old star bolts on the top left face, like somebody put a roped traverse up back in the day. Would be interesting to hear some history on that. Second there are three, possibly four problems here. One on the far left face, sit start on horizontaol flake, lunge to ledge top out. The next one is on the left side of the roof. Flakes to a mono on the face. Have never seen anyone finish it but if so it would be very, very hard. Next to that is the best problem here, check my video. I've never topped out, but it would be like v10 if you did. If you don't top out it goes at about v4, v5 I'd say. In my vid I fall before the last hold to the top right of the screen. Next is a problem that starts on the far right. Traverses the corner of the roof/face on sandy choss, then finishes by topping out above the pocket ladder to yet again sandy choss. Don't waste your time trying to clean it up, I've tried many a bored summer day. I usually hit this place in the morning and go out to rock city to finish the day. If your in the area on a holiday and the weather's good I'll most likely be there. (message me if your interested, would be nice to get a legit spot on this thing, maybe open up some new problems) Apr 23, 2015
