Description
High above the desert, perched atop massive slabs and with great views of the Wonderland and surrounding desert, Wavecrest Rock is somewhat involved to get to but well worth the effort required if only to enjoy the two fun routes here - Night Trap (aka The Sound of Waves) (5.11c) a sport bolted arete and Wavecrest (5.11+) a striking thin corner.
Getting There
There are two main ways to access Wavecrest Rock and neither of them are straightforward.
The first option is to head up the gully to the left of Lost in the Wonderland Slab which at one point requires doing some slab moves up a short headwall to reach the area where the rock is located.
The second option is to head past the Hidden Wall and work up the canyon to the formation. This way is a little trickier perhaps but requires nothing more than the standard boulder hopping/scrambling.
- Plan on a good 60-90 minutes to reach the base assuming all goes well and you don't get lost!
