Description

Brown Rocks is a beautiful outcrop of brown Antietam Quartzite rock facing northwest into the Cumberland valley. The crags are located on the northwest side of the Monalto Mountain, part of the Appalachian Mountains in Franklin County PA. This formation can be seen off to the right or south of White Rocks.

Climbs at Brown Rocks are predominately single pitches, and as high as 45 feet. All the climbs are traditionally (Trad) protected. It is also an excellant top rope area as well.

Getting There

From the upper parking lot area take the right fork (Posted NO MOTOR VEHICLES) down and around to the right, cross the small stream. Take the left fork which will take up past an old sand quarry. Keep left and follow the trail along the base of the ridge. Enter and cross a large scree field, past a huge boulder on the right, anguling up and left. Reaquire the trail, follow up and left to the Main Wall part of Brown Rocks.
