A south-facing, free-standing pillar of immaculate alpine granite with numerous sport-climbing routes. Very, very popular (read: crowded on weekends).
The Furka pass provides a connection between central Switzerland on its east side and the Valais to the west. The road itself is paved, and is generally open to traffic from the early/mid summer until late autumn, depending on weather conditions. On the east side of the pass, there are numerous superb venues for mountaineering activities.
The approach begins from the top of the Furka pass, traversing across beautiful alpine terrain to the base of the Sidelen glacier. The Hanibalturm is the prominent tower, currently at the foremost part of the glacier. The total approach time is around 1 hour, with limited vertical.
