Description

The Egg is the huge free standing formation which by the name implies it is shaped like a huge egg sitting on an egg cup or pedestal. The Egg is located west of The Chicken (aka Hyperion Slab) at the south entrance to The Canyon. The Egg is approximately 120 ft. high on the downhill (south) side and roughly 80 ft on the uphill (north) side and in the upper portion overhangs on all sides. A large gap or corridor separates The Egg from its neighboring formation to the north. There are routes on the nice sunny, rounded buttress on the south side (The Egg Cup), as well as, a route on each of the west and northeast faces. The rock is sandstone conglomerate, which tends to be chossy, until sufficient traffic has worn off the loose flakes, nubbins, and grit for the surface of the rock. All routes are bolted.

Getting There

Follow the trail downhill from the road and skirt the large slab
(The Chicken/Hyperion Slab) on the left. Continue west on the trail until it curves to the north and uphill into the canyon. The Egg is on your left as you approach the entrance to The Canyon.
