Description

A few fun climbs that are very easily accessed. Great for toproping.

Getting There

Located just South of South Colton, NY. Take Route 56 to East Hill Road and then turn right on Scovill Road. After about 3 miles, the road takes a sharp right turn toward a cell phone tower. It is possible to park on Scovil road or follow a rough dirt road to a grassy clearing to park closer. Follow an ATV trail downhill for a few minutes, taking a left onto a climbers path just after a small stream crossing. The cliffs will become visible as you reach the top of the hill.

New trailwork slightly altered the approach. To access the cliff, continue past the small stream uphill and turn left, following blue DEC trail markers. The trail forks near a sandpit- left hooks back quickly to the cliff base (making for the difference of one minute to reach the cliff), straight goes around to the top of the cliff.

From the base, walking right along the cliff and around the top is much less steep and is being encouraged with an official trail to prevent erosion on the left side.

There is a second, shorter cliffband about 200' back from the top of the cliff. Looked like very little potential for roped climbing (no cracks) though might have bouldering potential Oct 23, 2017
Approach beta ...If you drive past the correct final left turn (the final short dirt road), you'll know it soon because your road (Scovil) ends1/2 mile farther at a transmitter station. The final dirt road is relatively "do-able" but growing branches are starting to "choke it, It looks like it could be muddy and slippery after a rain. The parking area at the end of the dirt road can hold 2-3 cars. Jun 24, 2018
