Hubbard Park / East Peak

Connecticut > CT Bouldering

Description

This is an 1,800 acre park covering area in Meriden, Berlin and Southington. It is known for Castle Craig, a tower given as a gift, along with the entire park, to the town of Meriden around 1900 by Walter Hubbard.

There is lots of gnarly geology in here. The park is characterized by a long ridge. The stone commonly has a feature of protruding veins that is distinctive of the area and maybe most pronounced at this park. I think there are many bouldering areas that will be added here, eventually.

Getting There

Take exit 4 from I-691 and go toward downtown on Main St (it's a left off the offramp if you were on west-bound and right if you were on east-bound). Head downhill about 1/2 mile and the park entrance will be on the left.

You can park at the trailhead at the back of the pond area, which is good if you want to take the pedestrian overpass to the west side of the park.

You can also park in the main parking area there, which is good for accessing the east side of the park and the road that goes around the reservoir to the back of the park.

One of the first boulders you come across. Absolutely huge. Some really straightforward high ball lines too. Beautiful piece of stone. <br>

[Hide Comment] OK so the secrets finally out here....a couple friends and I started putting problems up here about 12-13 years ago. We've got 20-30 good problems in the area and a bunch of other not so good ones. Even this spring we put up a couple new ones after bouldering here half of our lifes. Its a good spot and if anyones interested I'll show them around as I'm back in my hometown for a bit and live 10 minutes away.

[Hide Comment] so there are definitely areas within hubbard other than the one described, which i think must be the boulder field south of the tower. i am thinking of putting some stuff here, maybe make that south of tower spot an area, and within that there could be an area for each of those dozen boulders Apr 2, 2022
[Hide Comment] I submitted edits on the description and "Getting there" for this area. Text from "description" was moved to the sub-area "Boulder field." May 2, 2022
